Many payments are means tested.  This means that the income that you (and any spouse/partner) have is taken into account and can reduce the amount of money that you receive or even prevent you from getting a payment altogether.

Each type of payment has different rules which treat income and savings differently.  Most payments allow you to earn some money and have some money in the bank before your payment is reduced.

You can ask to have your payment reviewed at any time.  If your income has gone down or you think you may be entitled to more money you should ask for a review.

If you dispute the amount of means that have been assessed against you, you can appeal this decision to the Social Welfare Appeals Office.
